Maruti Baleno Cross spied – bigger than Brezza?
The SUV craze has firmly gripped the country. Everyone wants their cars to have higher ground clearance and good road presence. Seeing this, manufacturers are bringing an off-road version of their hatchbacks like the Tiago NRG etc. However, Maruti is taking that one step ahead by bringing a proper new crossover based on the Baleno. The Baleno Cross has been spotted testing several times, and now we have new spy shots of the same. In today’s article, let’s talk about the new Maruti Baleno SUV.
New spy shots
The new spy shots were sent to us by one of our readers Tarun Goyal. In the spy shots, we can see a heavily camouflaged car. From the overall silhouette, it looks like the Baleno Cross. Anything new revealed by the spy shots? We can see the floating infotainment system like the Baleno hatchback. Other than that, we can spot an almost upright tailgate design. The side profile looks quite proportionate even with the tapering c-pillar. We also get a glimpse of the front, which looks identical to the Grand Vitara. Also, the alloy wheel design is the same as the Baleno.
What else do we know?
The Baleno Cross takes heavy inspiration from the Futuro-e-concept Maruti unveiled at the Auto Expo of 2020. Like other newer Maruti cars, it will be based on the Heartect platform. What about the specifications? The Baleno Cross is expected to come with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine that Maruti last used on the Baleno RS. This engine is capable of producing 100bhp & 150Nm of torque. Maruti could also give it some kind of hybrid technology to improve its mileage.
Maruti Baleno SUV – Launch timeline
Maruti is yet to confirm anything about the Baleno Cross, but the recent sightings could indicate that the car is in the final stages of development. According to sources, Maruti could unviel the car at the Auto Expo of 2023. The launch may happen in mid-2023. Toyota is also expected to bring its version of the Baleno Cross.
