The last few years have been quite good for Tata. Its new-age SUVs have driven the brand into the top3 manufacturers in the country. Tata’s next target will be to dethrone Hyundai. How does Tata do it? By attacking Hyundai’s star product, the Hyundai Creta. Tata is not looking to bring one, but two SUVs to take on the Creta. In today’s article, let’s talk about these Tata Creta rival.

Two SUVs?

Earlier this year, Tata showed the Curvv concept, which will be its C-SUV taking on the Hyundai Creta. The Curvv is quite an ambitious attempt from Tata considering it is a coupe-SUV. Coupe SUVs have their plus points like better dynamics and more storage, but not everyone prefers them. Some people want that tall boy design to give a better road presence. So what can Tata do? It could bring two SUVs based on the Curvv platform – a coupe SUV and a traditional boxy one. Doing this, will give buyers a bigger option pool and also drive away more sales from the Hyundai Creta.

Setbacks

The biggest problem with this plan is the investment and resources. Developing one car from scratch is already a lot of trouble and making two up the development cost. Another thing Tata will have to keep in mind is to bring different USPs for the two cars. If it does happen, the two SUVs will be based on the modified version of the X1 platform that underpins the Tata Nexon.

Tata Creta rival – Launch timeline

Irrespective of the two SUVs, Tata had confirmed that it could launch the Curvv EV within the next 24 months. This means that the launch could happen sometime in 2024. What about the ICE-Curvv? ICE-powered Curvv is expected to launch a few months after the Curvv EV. However, a lot of these timelines depend on the development and on-going chip shortage.
