The Kia Sonet is the most loaded car in the compact SUV segment. It has got all the bells and whistles with multiple powertrain options making it a considerate option in its segment. However, that is yet to change because Honda is likely to bring a new rival to the Kia Sonet. The Japanese automaker has launched the WR-V in Indonesia which is likely to launch in India soon. So, let’s talk about WR-V today.

The Honda WR-V is based on the updated version of the PF2 platform. This architecture is also shared by its compact sedan- Amaze. Talking about the design of the car, it looks fairly modern with an aggressive front look and LED headlamps. Getting to the sides, the car looks tall with its 220mm of ground clearance. Other than this, the side profile looks clean and clear with nill defining cuts and creases. What about the rear? The rear comes with comma-shaped rear taillamps.

Features

As Honda is being late in the most lucrative segment of India, it has to issue an abundant feature list. Features have become the USP of a car. If we talk about the Indonesian spec car, it gets a 7.0-inch infotainment system, remote engine stop, 6 speakers, automatic AC, semi-digital instrument cluster etc. Safety-wise, it gets ADAS, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control and more. However, it’s still on the fence about whether it could get all these features on the Indian spec model.

Honda launched the WR-V in Indonesia with a single 1.5-litre petrol engine (119bhp and 145Nm) mated to a CVT transmission. There’s no option for a manual gearbox. However, if we talk about the Indian model, it must get a manual gearbox with an option for a CVT transmission. Then, if we come to the engine option, it might get the 1.2-litre NA aspirated engine from the Amaze which makes 89bhp and 110Nm of torque. The talks of 1.0-litre turbo petrol are also in full swing which could add as another.

Honda has earlier stated that it is developing a compact SUV for the Indian market. It is highly probable that the new WR-V is that very car and the brand is planning to launch it in India soon. If it ever plans to bring it here, Honda has to reduce its dimensions nominally to fit it in the sub-4 metre category. What about pricing? The prices could stay in line with other cars in the competition. We can expect this car to start at Rs 9 lakh.
