Toyota banks heavily in the Indian market with their diesel-guzzling SUVs. We have the legendary Fortuner and Crysta which is soon to make an eventful comeback in the diesel avatar. But, with all other manufacturers sitting on the EV bandwagon, Toyota has to bring some or the other EV into the country. A recent picture revolving around the Internet has created a buzz in the EV sector. Moreover, there are possibilities of it becoming the first-ever Toyota EV in India! Which is this car? Let’s find out!

Toyota EV in India – What has been spotted?

The EV version of the Innova Crysta has spotted on Indonesian roads. The spotted car is largely based on the Innova Crysta with the same body shell. However, justifying its EV elements is the absence of a grille and blue inserts on the headlights. Moreover, it also gets blue vinyl running on the sides of the car which is not present on the current car. Talking about the rear, it looks the same as the regular car with no changes as such.

NEW SU-EV?

This new possible EV iteration could be tested by the Japanese automaker to analyse its feasibility in the real world. As the Innova Crysta is a body-on-frame vehicle, this new EV setup in it could be one of a kind. Though it is not clear that Innova is actually testing a full EV, it might be a PHEV or again a petrol hybrid. Though the chances of it getting a hybrid are less as Toyota has recently unveiled the HyCross in India. So, the only possibilities bare down to the likes of EV or PHEV. If we analyse this theory, then we could see an Innova Crysta EV. What about battery specifications? No details are out on the battery configurations of this car so we cannot talk about it at this stage.

Toyota EV in India – When could it launch?

Toyota India has unwrapped the Innova HyCross for the Indian market. Then if we move on talk about the existing Crysta, it would be sold alongside the new HyCross. Moreover, next year Toyota is also set to bring the Crysta diesel back into the game. You would be having two cars with the Innova moniker and if Toyota plans to bring this EV then we could have 3 Innovas on sale. As far as the pricing is concerned, it totally depends on what powertrain it is supposed to get? If Toyota is successful in its testing, what could be its pricing? Do you think Innova Crysta EV would make sense? Let us know in the comments.
