Hyundai started its EV journey in India with the Kona EV. However, the Kona EV has not been able to ignite the EV craze. So to do that Hyundai will be bringing its premium electric car, the IONIQ 5. The IONIQ 5 is based on the brand’s E-GMP platform, which is a ground-up EV platform. This platform also underpins the Kia EV6 sold in India. Like the EV6, the Ioniq-5 also come with quite a unique design. Overall the car comes with a modern design given some retro touches. Inside, we see minimalistic interiors with a single-piece infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.

Hyundai India is yet to confirm the specifications of the IONIQ 5. Globally the IONIQ 5 comes with two different packs (58kWh and 72.6kWh). The 58kWh battery pack offers claimed range of 385km, while the 72.6kWh battery pack gets a claimed range of upto 481km. Motor options include a rear-wheel-drive setup (168bhp/350Nm) and all-wheel-drive options (301bhp/605Nm). In India, we could see a bigger battery pack with RWD and AWD setups.

The IONIQ 5 is one of Hyundai’s flagship models and it gets the flagship treatment in terms of features. It comes with a fully-digital instrument cluster, a premium Bose sound system, and a fully digital instrument cluster. With Tucson getting level-2 ADAS and the IONIQ 5 is expected to come bundled with this feature.

Hyundai has confirmed that it will be launching the IONIQ-5 in India. Recently, Hyundai also showcased the car discovering the seven wonders of India. Hyundai could unveil the car at the Auto Expo of 2023. The launch could happen a few months after the unveiling. What about the pricing? The IONIQ 5 is expected to come through the CKD route in India. It will be also localized in the future. This will make it cheaper than its sister car, the Kia EV6. We can expect a starting price of Rs 40 lakhs (ex-showroom).
