Why does nobody buy these bikes?
Yamaha needs no introduction in the bike scene of our market. It is one of the few established brands in the country. Yamaha has a range of scooters and bikes that serve different categories. However, even with such experience, the brand is struggling in the market. Its sales figures have not been that great, so why is that? In today’s article, let’s talk about Yamaha India.
What’s the fuss?
Yamaha registered sales figures of 61,691 units in October 2022. This sales figure is not that bad, but it is the worst-performing major established two-wheeler brand. In the sales chart, after Yamaha, we have electric two-wheeler manufacturers like Ather and Okinawa, which are just establishing themself. So it is quite worrying for Yamaha that it is recording such low sales.
Yamaha bikes – Why is it so?
So why is Yamaha struggling? All its products have some weaknesses. Like its best-selling bike, the FZ-S has an underpowered engine compared to the competition. Also, its pricing is a bit on the higher side. Its next product, the R15 suffers from its aggressive seating position and higher pricing now which makes it a select few customers cup of tea. Talking about the MT15, it suffers from a cramped seat, stiff suspension, single-channel ABS and less technology and features than it’s rivals. The FZ-X neo-retro affair has also not worked out for Yamaha that well. Overall, Yamaha products suffer from high pricing and a lack of mainstream love for any of their products.
What can Yamaha do?
It’s not like Yamaha can’t solve the problem. Some of the problems like cramped seats and a lack of features can be solved. Other than that, Yamaha also needs to bring some new bikes like affordable adventure bikes something like the Hero Xpulse. Other than that, Yamaha should also bring XSR 155 and YZF-R3 to India. To up their sales numbers and rake in profits it would not harm the company to launch a premium commuter bike too and get some big flagship bikes like the Yamaha R7 and Tenere 700 for enthusiasts to spend money on.
