Volkswagen’s next SUV to be this?
The German automaker is witnessing unprecedented success in India. Ever since the launch of its Virtus and Taigun, these cars have taken up the mantle to grow the Volkswagen badge. But, what’s next for this automobile giant? Is it planning to bring a new SUV in partnership with Skoda? Or it could launch this in-house SUV which is very popular in European markets. Let’s know more about this new Volkswagen coupe SUV.
Volkswagen Taigo
Coupe SUVs have created a buzz in the Indian SUV market. On account of this, the Taigo could be a perfect coupe SUV for the Indian market. It can’t be wrong if we say the Taigo is essentially a Tiguan with a coupe-like rear. If launched in India, Taigo could be based on the same MQB AO-IN which underpins other VW India cars.

The majority of its body design resembles the Tiguan. Only when we come to the sides, we can spot the tapering roofline with a tweaked rear lid design. The overall look of the car has a sporty appearance that might turn out attractive for some buyers. Other than this, the side bolsters look very defined with body cladding, integrated roof spoiler, and smoked lamps. It also gets a hexagonal grille with a full-length LED light ba, a bold set of bumpers and large 17-inch wheels. This makes the car looks very sporty indeed.
Features
The interiors of the Taigo are familiar with the Taigun. In the car, you are welcomed by the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Moving on to the centre console, you also get the 10-inch infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. Another highlight is its coloured dash panels which are coded with the body paint of the car. It also gets Level 2 ADAS in foreign countries under Volkswagen’s ‘travel assist’ tech.

Volkswagen sells the Taigo in European countries which gets 3 petrol engine options to choose from. It gets two tunes of the 1.0-litre which generate 93bhp and 108bhp respectively. Moreover, it also gets a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that makes 150bhp of power. All in all these engines are identical to what we get in the Taigun. So, if the Taigo makes its way in India, it is highly expected to get the more powerful 1.5-lire petrol with a 6-speed manual or a 7-step SCT gearbox.

If we keep the launch of ID.4 and the upcoming compact SUV aside, the German automaker could be deprived of launching any other products. Now, after we look at what’s running hot in the market (demand for coupe SUVs), the Taigo could be an apt car for the market. If launched, the prices are expected to stay higher than the Taigun. Moreover, Volkswagen might have to tweak its name because then there would be 3 perplexing names from VW. The existing Taigun and Tiguan would be joined by the Taigo. Do you also find it confusing?
