2022 has been quite a blockbuster year for Toyota. It launched three new cars this year- Hilux, Glanza and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. However, the launch of the GLanza was the biggest gamble considering the pickup segment is non-existent in our market. Now, seeing this we could see more pickup cars in India. Force has unveiled a potential competitor to the Hilux in the form of the Gurkha pickup. In today’s article, let’s talk about this rival car to take on Toyota.

Will it come to India?

This pickup truck was not displayed by Force in India. Rather, it was displayed by Indonesia-based Republik Motors as a Ksatria SUV. The brand displayed the Gurkha 5-door and pickup based on the same platform. Republik has done this under the licensing of Force Motors. So will we see them in India? The Gurkha 5-door is already being readied, but what about the pickup? Force Motors has never stated anything about it, but it could bring it to India to take on the Toyota Hilux.

Toyota car rival – Design

Design-wise, the pickup looks similar to the Gurkha sold in India. At the front, we have circular LED DRLs and LED headlamps with muscular bumpers. One change is that this car gets bull bars giving it a more rugged look. This pickup gets a dual-cab design and sports a different alloy wheel design.

Interior

Inside the pickup, we have some differentiation from the Gurkha sold in India. It gets dual-tone black and beige interiors. What else? The Indonesian model gets plusher seats than the Gurkha. There is also a ceiling-mounted AC vent. Overall, the car is still barebones, something we also see in the Indian model.

The car launched in Indonesia comes with the same engine options as the Gurkha sold in India. So it comes with a 2.6-litre Merced-Benz sourced engine capable of producing 91bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine feels underpowered on the 3-door Gurkha and could feel more so in a pickup car. So Force will have to do something before launching this pickup in India.
