The Tata Punch is on a rapid rise in our market. Since its launch last year, Punch has raked in average sales of 10k units per month. The closest competitor to the Punch is the Maruti Ignis. However, the Ignis is nowhere near the sales of the Punch. To change this, Maruti could give the Ignis a major update. What can Maruti change on the Ignis facelift? In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 6 lakh Maruti Punch rival.

The Ignis facelift could get a proper makeover to take on the Tata Punch. Maruti may redesign the bumpers and change the grille a bit to give it a more muscular look. Another thing we could see is a bit higher ground clearance increasing its practicality. Lastly, Maruti could provide some funky graphics and colour options to attract new buyers.

Rs 6 lakh Maruti- Specifications

The Ignis facelift could get the Dualjet 1.2-litre petrol that now powers other Maruti cars in this price range. This engine is capable of producing 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. However, the speciality of this engine is high fuel efficiency. This will make the Ignis quite an economical car to run. Transmission options could include a 5-speed manual gearbox and AMT.

Features

Currently, the Ignis lacks a lot of features in comparison to the Tata Punch. So Maruti will have to pump its game as it did with the Brezza and Grand Vitara. So what can Maruti add? The new Ignis could come with 8-inch infotainment, connected car technology, a digital instrument cluster, updated seat contours and more.

Maruti has been tight-lipped about the Ignis facelift, but it will need a car to take on the Tata Punch. So when would the car be unveiled? Maruti could unveil the car at the Auto Expo of 2023. The launch could happen a few months after the unveiling. Considering the added things, we could expect a price bump of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 (ex-showroom).
