The transition of shifting towards an automatic from a manual gearbox has risen. Buyers have started opting for an automatic car for its perks like ease of driving, convenience, and comfort. Our dealer salesperson often reckons us to go for an automatic if we have daily usage of driving in intercity traffic jams. However, what if our desired choice of car does not get automatic? Yes, there are some cars that still don’t offer an automatic gearbox option. We have a list of cars that need an automatic gearbox. Which are those? Read below.

Citroen C3

Citroen’s entry-level model – C3 gets 2 petrol engine options. It has 1 naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol that makes 81bhp and 115Nm of torque mated only with a 5-Speed manual gearbox. Next up is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 109bhp and 190Nm of torque mated to a 6-Speed manual gearbox. Both the transmission opinions being manual, you don’t have an automatic option. There are reports that Citroen is developing a DCT automatic but nothing is confirmed yet. The brand may add the DCT as an option with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol.

Honda City

Currently, Honda sells its City in the 5th generation avatar. Though you have a CVT automatic option with the pure petrol 1.5-litre petrol engine(119bhp and 145Nm) and Hybrid(125bhp and 253Nm), it only gets a 6-Speed manual option with the 1.5-litre diesel(98bhp and 200Nm). There is no automatic option available with the diesel engine. If made available, would you ever get the City diesel? Do let us know.

MG Hector

MG Hector is available with two automatic gearbox options. You have a CVT automatic as well as a DCT gearbox. However, you can only choose these automatic options with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol (141bhp and 250Nm) variant. You only get a 6-Speed manual gearbox option with the 2.0-litre diesel (169bhp and 350Nm). MG might bring the option of a diesel automatic with the upcoming 2023 Hector.

Bolero Neo

Mahindra’s Bolero Neo is an affordable SUV with a starting price of Rs 11.29 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, the powertrain options are kept limited with this one. It only gets a diesel engine 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 100bhp and 260Nm of torque. The transmission option is a 5-Speed manual gearbox. If not a petrol engine, Mahindra should get an automatic torque converter gearbox for this car.  

Tata Altroz

Tata offers the Altroz with 3 engine options -a 1.2-litre NA petrol, a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. However, only the 1.2-litre turbo gets the option of a 6-Speed DCT. So, if you want the Altroz automatic, you have to get the turbo petrol engine that makes 107bhp and 140Nm of torque.

Hyundai Venue

Hyundai Venue has automatic gearbox options like the DCT and a 6-Speed semi-automatic gearbox with its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (118bhp and 172Nm of torque). It does not get an option to choose an automatic gearbox with its other two engines -a 1.2-litre petrol engine (82bhp and 114Nm of torque) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (99 bhp and 240Nm of torque). On the other hand, its alter ego the Kia Sonet gets a diesel automatic.
