The SUV segment has seen a magical rise in the last few years. Urban SUVs have hogged most of this demand due to their features and looks. However, some people don’t like such SUVs and prefer true-off roaders like Force Gurkha and Mahindra Thar. The Gurkha and Thar are capable vehicles but score low on practicality. To address this issue, Mahindra and Force are working on Thar 5-door and Gurkha 5-door versions, respectively. Even Maruti is working on the Jimny 5-door, but it seems Force wants to have the first mover advantage. This means that the Force Gurkha 5-door could make its entry to the market first. So, in today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 20 lakh SUV that will create a new segment.
Design details
The 5-door Gurkha has been spotted several times with camouflage and without camouflage. Naturally, the 5-door Gurkha will be longer than the 3-door model. According to the latest spy shots, the Gurkha 5-door will get minimal changes. It will get squared headlamps rather than circular ones. Also, the SUV will come with 18-inch alloy wheels and large fenders. Overall the car looks quite proportionate, even with the added length.
New Rs 20 lakh SUV – Specifications
The 5-door Gurkha will continue on the brand’s C-platform that underpins the current 3-door Gurkha. This 5-door Gurkha will come with six, seven & nine-seater options. According to spy shots, it could also get a 13-seater variant. What about engine options? It will continue with the 2.6-litre Mercedes-sourced diesel engine capable of producing 91bhp & 250Nm of torque. Force should definitely re-tune this engine, considering it feels underpowered even on the 3-door Gurkha. This engine will continue with the five-speed manual gearbox.
Expected launch timeline
Force Motors has been quite tight-lipped about the Gurkha 5-door, but the car has been spotted several times in almost production-ready guise. Also, Force knows that it needs to be quick on its feet and bring the Gurkha 5-door before the Jimny 5-door & Thar 5-door. According to reports, Force could unveil the Gurkha 5-door at the Auto Expo of 2023. What about the pricing? Currently, the Gurkha 3-door starts from Rs 17.68 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), so we can expect the Gurkha 5-door to start from somewhere between Rs 19 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
