So what’s next from Skoda? Skoda is planning a sleeve of products in different segments, and it is said to be prioritising a compact SUV to take on cars like the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. The compact SUV segment is one of the most popular segments in India. Almost all manufacturers have their cars in this segment. The main reason is the sub-four-meter rule which lets manufacturers price their cars competitively. For this, Skoda has been actively studying more models on the MQB A0 IN platform. This compact SUV will come under ‘Project 2.5’. Skoda is developing this SUV also for export markets. 

What else to expect?

The car is still in its early stages of development, but we can expect some similarities with the Kushaq. We can expect a similar grille to the Kushaq. Overall the car could get a sharp design like other newer Skoda cars. What about engine options? This compact SUV could come with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine like the Kushaq and Slavia. What about the 1.5-litre turbo petrol? It is highly unlikely considering the extra taxes. In terms of features, we can expect a big infotainment system, an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging and a Skoda sound system.

As mentioned above, Skoda is eager to enter this segment. At the same time, Skoda is not looking to rush this product as it wants to tick all the boxes before launch. According to rumours, Skoda could launch this SUV by 2025. Rivalling the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet will not be easy, so we hope Skoda brings a polished product to the Indian market. However, if Skoda does get it right, the Skoda compact SUV could be a success.
