Now Skoda has started working on its EV plan for India. The main highlight of this plan would be the introduction of an affordable electric vehicle. Skoda is planning to make India a manufacturing hub for affordable electric vehicles in the future. Skoda believes that it will need to set up a new factory to produce affordable electric vehicles in India. This EV will be based on the Volkswagen platform. Skoda wants to export electric vehicles from India to its global markets. Skoda CEO Schaefer believes that India will be playing a much more significant role in the Volkswagen group’s future.

Currently, Skoda is doing a pilot study on bringing the Enyaq premium electric SUV to India. If Skoda brings the Enyaq to India, it will come through the completely knocked down (CKD) route. The Enyaq is based on the Volkswagen MEB platform. Dimension-wise, it is similar to the Safari and XUV700. Skoda is also planning to bring three more EVs in the coming few years.

Skoda & Volkswagen are also working on bringing a sub-four-metre SUV for the Indian market. This new model will be produced under the brand’s Project 2.5. It will most likely be based on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform. It will take design elements and features from the Skoda Kushaq. Skoda is looking to launch it by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
