The Cyrus Mistry accident has shaken everyone, starting from the government to the common man. The government is coming hard on several safety measures. Nitin Gadkari said at the International Association Summit that the government will ban the manufacturing and sale of seat belt stopper clips. For context, a seat belt stopper is a piece of metal that can be buckled in the seat to stop the constant seat belt reminder chime. It is quite a popular accessory in the second-hand market, and it remains to be seen how the government can completely curb its usage. Many people are more concerned about the constant chime than their own safety.

Safety awareness

The government is trying a lot of things to improve the safety standards in India. Nitin Gadkari has been quite vocal about improving road safety. What are the measures taken by the government? The government is making six airbags and a three-point seat belt for the rear passengers mandatory for all cars. Another thing the government is looking to ensure is that design proposals for new roads are stringently reviewed, and lapses in road engineering attract heavy fines.
