Safety has become the talk of the town in the last few years. Tata has been at the forefront of the change with its safe cars like the Nexon, Punch, Altroz, Tigor and Tiago. However, one thing that has been odd is Tata’s reluctance to test the Harrier and Safari. What’s more is that the Harrier is based on a modified version of the Jaguar LandRover D8 platform. So technically it should be a safe car, but without a crash test rating we can’t be sure. According to reports, it is an issue with the Fiat engine protruding into the cabin. Nevertheless, with the upcoming facelift, the Harrier could get safer with the addition of ADAS. In today’s article, let’s talk about Tata Harrier safety.

Tata Harrier safety- ADAS?

We already know that Tata is testing the Harrier and Safari facelift. Back in May, we had given exclusive information about these facelifts. In that, our source revealed that the Harrier facelift will get some ADAS features. It will be a welcome change, seeing the benefits of ADAS. Also, Tata is often questioned why it is not sending the Safari and Harrier to GNCAP for crash testing. The ADAS functionality will not make the Harrier magically safe, but it will certainly provide a security cover. It is unclear whether Tata is bringing ADAS level-1 or level-2.

Benefits of ADAS

So you must be thinking why is ADAS so important? Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is a broad term used for several active safety features. They have the capabilities to alert and even avoid accidents in extreme cases. ADAS include safety features like cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, blind-spot detection and lane departure.

What else will it get?

Barring the ADAS, the Harrier facelift will come with a lot of new things. First of all, it will get some design changes like a new grille, headlamp and bumpers. Also, Harman is working with Tata to bring a new infotainment unit to the Harrier. In August, we had spotted the Harrier facelift in testing. In the spy shots, we could spot a new infotainment system and the presence of 360-degree camera. With the new infotainment system we can also expect a new UI. Coming to the specifications, it will continue with the 2.0-litre diesel engine. However, the big change comes with the addition of a petrol engine. This petrol engine could be a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. We have written a detailed article on how Tata will do it, you can check it out on the link below. Tata is also tuning the suspension setup improving Harrier’s off-road capabilities.

Tata Harrier safety- Launch timeline

Tata is currently working on the Harrier and Safari facelifts. Recently both the SUVs were spotted testing. According to our sources, Tata could launch the Harrier facelift in the early part of 2023. Still, a lot of this depends on the ongoing chip shortage and other factors. What about the pricing? In terms of pricing, we expect the starting price of the Harrier to drop due to the addition of the petrol engine. The Tata Harrier could start from somewhere around the Rs 13 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
