The Tata Harrier has been taking on the mid-size SUV segment since 2019. It takes on direct competition from the MG Hector and the Mahindra XUV700. The Harrier has remained the same altogether since its facelift update in 2020. Tata has kept on bringing small updates here & there in order to keep the product fresh. The Harrier recently received the Kaziranga Edition update which added features like wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, air purifier and ventilated seats to it. However, don’t you think it is high time Tata brings in a major facelift for the Harrier? Rivals have slowly been catching up and Tata needs to be quick on its feet in order to stay abreast with the constantly growing competition. The brand has been tight-lipped and has not let out any information regarding the facelift. However, to delight Harrier lovers, today we have a lot of crucial insights about the facelift of this car from one of our sources within the company. In this article, we will be discussing the exclusive details that we have regarding the upcoming facelift. Let’s begin.

Project details

Tata Harrier facelift details

Tata is said to be working on the Harrier facelift under the ‘Q5MCE’ project name. With the facelift, we will get to see a lot of changes that will surely enhance the overall value-for-money quotient of this SUV. On the design front, we will get to see a reworked front fascia with new headlamps and new grille. Regular changes like new alloys and new bumpers are also expected. Since Tata is reworking the front, we also expect to see some subtle changes being done to the rear in order to give the Harrier a fresh appeal.

Tata Harrier facelift details – Mechanical changes

Tata Harrier facelift details

Moving to engine and other mechanical changes, Tata has long being expected to be working on a petrol engine for the Harrier and the Safari. Our sources have informed us that it indeed would be a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit. This 1.5-litre unit could be the modified version of Tata’s 1.2-litre Revotron engine but with an added cylinder. With the engine being a turbocharged unit, we expect the power figures to touch the 150bhp mark. Do you think 150bhp petrol engine on Harrier would be sufficient to take on the rivals? We think that Tata will have to atleast push out these figures if it needs to take on the majority of the competition that offers a petrol engine as of now. Nothing is confirmed regarding changes to the diesel engine. Tata already borrows the 2.0-litre diesel unit from Jeep and we do not see any changes coming to the diesel unit since Jeep is also not said to be working on a new diesel unit as of now. In terms of other mechanical changes, the brand is also changing and tuning the suspension setup to improve its off-roading capabilities. This new setup will also help in improving the suspensions’ overall life.

New features to be added

Harman, which currently backs Tata’s music systems is said to be working on a new infotainment unit for the Harrier. We will also get to see 360-degree camera integrated with this unit. Also, Tata has sensed the changing market and is working to throw in some ADAS features as well to take on the fiercest of rivals in the segment, especially the Mahindra XUV700. Whether it will be a level-1 system or level-2 system is still not clear. Apart from this, we might get to see some more features being added to the Harrier. The list could see ambient lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, etc being added to the list.

Tata Harrier facelift details – Pricing & launch

The upcoming facelift is touted to come sometime in early 2023. As far as pricing is confirmed, the addition of petrol variants could surely help in bringing down the Harrier’s starting price, making it affordable for more number of prospective buyers. The Harrier could thus start from somewhere around Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
