Hyundai has been in the second spot when it comes to the Indian Car Market. However, the homegrown Tata is also seen gaining up the pace quite hastily. With Tata’s new lineup of cars, Tata is in no mood for slowing down. On the other hand, Hyundai is also leaving no stone unturned looking at its recent launches in the market. Both brands are having an immaculate portfolio but Hyundai has some blanks to fill. What is this blank? We are talking about a micro-SUV. As we all have seen the terrific response for the Tata Punch, Hyundai also has a car on rife. Is this Hyundai’s new micro SUV? Read further to know more.

Design

Hyundai is planning a new micro-SUV to take on the likes of Tata Punch, Maruti Ignis, Renault Kwid, and the S-Presso. This new car is codenamed as ‘Ai3’ and is expected to be based on the Grand i10 Nios platform. There are no official details about the design but we are expecting Hyundai’s new design language on the car. Other than that it could take design cues from the Venue as well as other Hyundai cars. Interiors of the car could be on the premium side with new-age features.

As Punch is a feature-loaded car, Hyundai would also have to give its compact SUV a feature-rich experience. The overall dimensions would stay similar to Punch, having perks like higher ground clearance, body cladding, roof rails, etc. This new Hyundai could have features like connected car tech, wireless charging, TPMS, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, cooled glove box, ambient lighting and many more.

Engine

Hyundai could bring the Ai3 with similar drivetrain options to the Grand i10 Nios. The Ai3 is likely to get 2 engine options- A 1.2-litre petrol making 82bhp and 114Nm of torque & a 1.2-litre diesel that makes 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. As the Punch is only available with a petrol motor, adding a diesel motor on offer could be a perfect advantage for the Hyundai. What about the gearbox? Hyundai would bring a manual as well as an AMT gearbox.

Prices of the Ai3 would be aggressive to pull off the crowd from the Punch. It could be priced from Rs 6 lakh ( ex-showroom) offering a commendable package. Whereas, there is no official confirmation from the brand regarding its launch dates but we are expecting it to be unveiled in early 2023. What do you think of this car? Would you choose it over the Punch? Let us know in the comments.
