The Toyota Fortuner doesn’t need an introduction in the Indian market. It enjoys a monopoly in the full-size SUV segment with little to no resistance from its rivals. With the discontinuation of Ford Endeavour, Toyota is enjoying a free run with the Fortuner. Nevertheless, Toyota is still looking to update the Fortuner to stay one step ahead of the competition. Toyota has already started working on the new-generation of this very popular SUV. According to reports, the Toyota Fortuner could get a game-changing feature in this update. In today’s article, let’s talk about this new feature of the Toyota Fortuner.

New Toyota Fortuner – Major feature

new Fortuner feature

As with any new generation, the new Fortuner will get several new features. However, one feature that will stand out is the new hybrid system. Toyota is working on giving the new Fortuner a mild-hybrid setup paired with its 2.8-litre diesel engine. How will it work? The setup will get an alternator which will assist the car during standstill acceleration and power the car at lower RPMs. This assistance will improve fuel-efficiency and reduce emissions.

What else can change?

The new-generation Fortuner will get another major change with a new platform. So what is this new platform? The new Fortuner will come on the TNGA-F platform. The TNGA-F platform can easily accommodate the 2.8-litre diesel engine unit along with the hybrid setup. With the new platform, we can expect some significant changes to the design of the new SUV. It could get new body panels as well.

Launch timeline and pricing

According to reports, Toyota has plans to launch the next-generation Fortuner in 2023. However, this launch will first happen in Thailand. After that, Toyota will launch the Fortuner in other Southeast Asian markets. What about an India launch? We can expect an India launch by the end of 2023 or sometime in 2024. Now, let’s jump onto the pricing. As mentioned above, Fortuner has a free run in its segment. So it is highly unlikely that we will see a price drop in this SUV. Moreover, with the new hybrid setup costs will mostly shoot up.
