The C-SUV segment is one of the most profitable ones in the country. These cars offer the perfect blend of space and manoeuvrability. This segment was once ruled by the Renault Duster. In 2015, Hyundai launched the Creta and the rest is history. Over the years, the Creta has gone from strength to strength. As a product, it is known for its features and a wide variety of engine & transmission options. So what can Hyundai bring next? It could be a CNG variant for the Creta. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Hyundai Creta CNG.

The need for CNG

The Creta does provide a decent enough mileage in its segment, but high fuel prices have manipulated buyers’ mindset. Not to forget, the Creta comes with an efficient diesel engine, but the upcoming emission norms have made diesel buyers vary. The next cost-effective step is to bring a CNG option. CNG is easy to implement for manufacturers and also offers great mileage. What about a hybrid option? Hybrid is an option but is more expensive to implement.

Why a Creta CNG?

Earlier this year, a Carens CNG was spotted testing in India. The spied Carens CNG was sporting the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with a manual gearbox. This is the same engine that Hyundai uses on the Creta. So, Hyundai can plonk this setup in the Creta. As mentioned above, the Creta comes with decent mileage, but the competition is going to heat up with the introduction of the Maruti Grand Vitara. The Grand Vitara has a claimed mileage of 27.97kmpl on its strong hybrid setup. The Creta CNG will be no match to the Grand Vitara, but still, it will give better mileage to its buyers.

Will it ever happen?

There is no official confirmation from Hyundai regarding the Creta CNG, but CNG cars are gaining a lot of momentum in the market. Kia is already testing CNG on the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (Carens CNG) and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (Sonet CNG). There are some rumours that Hyundai could introduce the Creta CNG with the planned facelift model. So, only time will tell whether we get to see a Hyundai Creta CNG or not, however, it is definitely a possibility.
