Hyundai’s affordable EV to come after the Ioniq-5!
Hyundai is having a busy start to the second half of 2022. Last month, it launched the Venue and recently, it also unveiled the new Tucson. The launch of Tucson is slated for August. So what is Hyundai’s plan after Tucson? Hyundai will be bringing its flagship EV, the Ioniq-5 to India. The Ioniq-5 is a sister model of the EV6, but it will be cheaper than the EV6 as it will come through the CKD route. Still, it will not be an affordable car by any stretch of the imagination. Thankfully, Hyundai is working on several new EVs with one of them being an affordable option. In today’s article, we will talk about Hyundai’s affordable EV.
Hyundai’s plan
Hyundai has confirmed that it will be launching an affordable EV for the Indian market. This comes after Kia also recently confirmed that it is working on an affordable EV option. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that both brands will be working together on this project. Hyundai will be looking to heavily localise the product to keep costs in check. When will it be launched? Hyundai hasn’t specified a launch timeline, but it seems to be a fair time away as Hyundai waits for the ecosystem to develop.
EV roadmap
Hyundai has revealed an elaborate plan of launching more & more EVs. Hyundai has plans to launch as many as six EVs in India by 2028. For this is investing a total of 40 billion rupees into the Indian market. For now, Hyundai is focusing on launching its second EV in India, the Ioniq-5. With the Ioniq-5, Hyundai will be showing its EV capabilities and laying the foundation for other upcoming EVs. Once the foundation is laid it can launch more mass-market cars.
Hyundai’s affordable EV- What will it get?
This affordable EV is still in its early stages of development, so predicting about what it will get is a bit hard. It could be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP modular platform. In terms of design, it could get a design on the lines of the Kona EV. This will help Hyundai to give its EVs a family look. What about features? Features and Hyundai have kind of become synonymous in India, and we could expect the same on this affordable EV.
