Last month, Mahindra launched the Scorpio-N amid much fanfare. Now that the hype has settled a bit, we can take a closer look at the SUV. The Scorpio-N is a completely new car, bearing no major resemblance to the Scorpio Classic but still carrying forward its DNA. It is bigger and better in almost every aspect, marking a true generation update. In the launch presentation, Mahindra did reveal all details, but some of them were lost in the launch hype. So what were these missed details of the Scorpio-N? In today’s article, let’s find out.

Improved chassis

Scorpio-N details

Body-on-frame cars are generally quite heavy, hampering their handling dynamics at high speed. To solve this, Mahindra has made the chassis 10% lighter. What about safety? For greater stiffness, Mahindra has used 81% high-strength steel on the chassis. Apart from this, Mahindra has also lowered the body weight by 13 per cent. These changes do feel like they are working when you drive the Scorpio-N at high speeds.

Scorpio-N details – Suspension

Mahindra has put a lot of effort into the handling and suspension of the Scorpio-N. Mechanically, Mahindra is using a lighter mass in the suspension. This improves ride and handling. Watt linkage on the rear axle prevents the axle from moving side to side under load. Leaving all the technical things aside, the Scorpio-N does feel quite a good car on the bumps and roads and effortlessly glides over potholes.

Why two Scorpios?

Scorpio-N details

With the launch of Scorpio-N, many expected the older Scorpio to be discontinued, but that is not the case. So what’s the reason? It is an entirely different car that is distinct for the existing Scorpio buyers. As a product, the Scorpio-N is specially targeted to the younger audience, while the Scorpio Classic will cater to the existing base.

Scorpio-N details – Less waiting periods

Scorpio-N details

We have seen the high waiting periods of the XUV700 and Thar, but with Scorpio-N, Mahindra has promised lower waiting periods. The planning of the Scorpio-N launch happened during the pandemic, unlike the XUV700 and Thar. So this time around, Mahindra is ready with the inventory to start delivering in the festive season. What about the production capacity? Mahindra has confirmed that it can produce 6000 units of the SUV in a month.
