After years of testing, Mahindra has finally done what we have been waiting for a long time. Yes, it has finally unveiled the Scorpio-N today. So what’s new in the Scorpio-N? The Scorpio-N is coming with a host of new things, and we will be covering everything about the launched Mahindra Scorpio-N.

Variants and pricing

The Scorpio-N starts from Rs 11.99 lakh (around Rs 14.43 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)) and goes to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom) (around Rs 23.62 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)). You can check the variant-wise pricing in the above image. Mahindra has strategically priced every variant according to cars from various segments. They have priced the Scorpio-N cheaper and have yet managed to offer more power & features to every car they have compared.

Test drives start from 5th July in 30 cities. Bookings will start from 11am, 30th July through their dealerships and website. Deliveries will begin from the festive season. The Scorpio-N is available in seven colour options (Deep Forest, Napoli Black, Everest White, Red Rage, Dazzling Silver, Royal Gold, and Grand Canyon). Mahindra is using Z nomenclature for the Scorpio-N. So, we have Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 & Z8L. All the variants come with petrol and diesel options. The 4WD option is also available in all variants barring Z2.

So how big is the big daddy of SUVs? First things first, the Scorpio-N is big. For context, here are the dimensions. It is 4,662mm in length, 1,917mm in width and 1,857mm in height. The dimensions are almost on par with D-segment SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

Design gets a major overhaul in the Scorpio-N. At the front, we have a new grille with the new Mahindra logo. Besides them, we have Dual Barrel projector LED headlamps with an indicator strip below them. DRLs are placed lower on the fog lamps. What about the side profile? The side profile is kept clean with only some curves on the wheel arches. At the rear, we have vertical tail lamps. Like the design of the Scorpio-N? Do let us know in the comments.  

Interior design

The interiors are a major upgrade in the Scorpio-N. Mahindra has gone for a premium fit and finishes with the Scorpio-N. It now gets a black and brown coloured dashboard with a lot of soft-touch material. The new infotainment system adds a layer of modernity to the car. Other interior highlights include a three-spoke steering wheel, semi-digital instrument cluster, rectangle AC vents and leather upholstery.

The Scorpio-N is based on the third generation body-on-frame platform. The Scorpio will be coming with two familiar engine options; the 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel. So is this the same as the XUV700? Yes and no. The petrol engine is the same one which produces 197bhp & 370nm (MT)/380Nm (AT) of torque, while the diesel engine comes in two tunes. The lower diesel variants (Z2 MT & Z4 MT) get a tune of 132bhp & 300Nm of torque with a rear wheel drive. The higher diesel variants get a tune of 172bhp & 400Nm of torque. Barring the diesel’s lower tune, all engines get automatic options. The diesel engines even get a 4×4 setup for hardcore off-roaders (starting from Z4 for MT & starting from Z8 for AT). Mahindra has given it Pentalink rear suspensions and first-in-segment Watt’s link suspension. The Scorpio-N also comes with drive modes (Tarmac, Snow, Mud & Desert). Mahindra has gone one step up with 4XPLOR, an intelligent terrain-selector mode.

Mahindra set a benchmark in features with the launch of the XUV700. The  Scorpio is no different. It is not as feature-loaded as the XUV700, but it comes with a decent number of features. So what are these features? An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AdrenoX, a Sony sound system, wireless phone charging, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and AdrenoX with 70+ connected car features. The Scorpio-N is also gets Alexa-enabled what3words. What about safety features? It comes with 6 airbags, advanced ESC, Driver Drowsiness Detection, advanced seat restraint system, electronic brake force distribution, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Roll Over Mitigation and collapsible steering system. The Scorpio-N also gets the widest-in-segment sunroof with anti-pinch feature.
