The sedan market after seeing a consistent dip now shows some hints of revival with the launch of the Volkswagen Virtus and the Skoda Slavia. Although the Slavia and Virtus have a big role to play in this revival, the Honda City still continues to lead the segment. The City gives tough fight to both these cars. Now, this mid-size sedan is set to face another rival from a Korean brand. So what is this new car? It is the new generation of the Verna. In today’s article, we will talk about this Honda City rival and what new can you expect from it.

Currently, we only have spy shots of the new-generation Hyundai Verna. However, these spy shots have revealed that the new Verna will be bigger than the current model. Currently, the Verna does take a beating when it comes to offering space in the second-row. With increased dimensions, Hyundai could rectify this shortcoming. As far as the design is concerned, it will continue with Hyundai’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. Hyundai is expected to give it a sharp design and a muscular look to take on the newer rivals, even in the overall design department.

Honda City rival – Specifications

Though the Verna is getting a generation update, it will most likely continue with the same engine option. This means that the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 113bhp & 144Nm of torque and the 1.5-litre unit capable of producing 113bhp & 250Nm of torque could continue to be a part of the package. Now, the currently-available Verna gets a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine capable of producing 118bhp & 172Nm of torque. With the enhanced dimensions, can Hyundai fit in the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit? The answer to this only lies with Hyundai. However, if Hyundai does decide to do so, the sedan could see a power boost of 20bhp and a torque boost of 70Nm. Another possibility for the Verna could be the addition of a mild-hybrid setup. Looking at the growing trend of hybrid, Hyundai could use this opportunity to bank in in some sales.

Features

Coming to the part everyone loves, features. The Verna already comes with a lot of features. So what new can Hyundai add? Looking at the competition, Hyundai might add a big touchscreen infotainment along with the premium Bose sound system and Hinglish voice commands. Could it get ADAS? It could definitely be a possibility since more buyers are looking towards safer cars and ADAS is definitely a value addition in this direction.
