Should Tata Punch buyers wait for the Citroen C3?
Tata hit a jackpot by launching the Punch. The micro-SUV segment was considered a dead segment considering the fact that the KUV100 could not run the segment on its own. But Tata gambled with the Punch, and it has paid high dividends. Seeing the success of Tata, other manufacturers are also planning to enter this segment. Unlike other manufacturers, Citroen is taking a slightly different route. It is bringing the C3 to compete with the Punch. So what is unique about the C3? Citroen is not marketing the C3 as an SUV but as a hatchback with SUV-like characteristics. So should Tata Punch buyers wait for the Citroen C3? The Tata Punch is 3,827mm in length, 1,742mm in width & 1,615mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2,445mm and has a ground clearance of 187mm. What about the Citroen C3? The Citroen C3 is 3,981mm in length, 1,733mm in width & 1,586mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2540mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm. From the dimensions, it is clear that the C3 is bigger than Punch in length and wheelbase while the Punch is wider and taller than C3.
Tata Punch vs Citroen C3 specifications
Both the cars come with only petrol engine options. The Punch comes with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 84bhp & 113Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to manual and AMT options. In comparison, the C3 comes with two petrol engines: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol capable of producing 80bhp & 115Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol capable of producing 108bhp & 190Nm of torque. Surprisingly Citroen is not offering any automatic option on the C3. Earlier, it was being said that Citroen could offer a 7-speed DCT as well, however, the latest information has put this to rest.
Features
Tata played it smart by loading the Punch with features. It gets features like cruise control, auto headlamps, a cooled glove box, a 7.0-inch infotainment system and a Harman sound system. Can C3 compete? The C3 comes with features like 10.2-inch infotainment, four-speakers, wireless phone connectivity, and remote keyless entry.

Coming back to the main question; should you wait for the C3? It’s a bit complicated to answer this question. The C3 is bigger and comes with better engine options but the Punch takes the upper hand in the interior and features department. The Punch has a better fit and finish than the C3. What about the ride quality? The Punch is quite good, but Citroen as a brand is known for comfort, and it will be no different on the C3. So in short, either way, you are getting a good deal. If you can hold your purchase, you should wait and definitely check out the C3.
