Tata Nexon is the top-selling compact SUV as well as top-selling SUV in India as of today. Tata has consistently updated this car to keep it a bang-for-money option for buyers. Safety, features, engine and design are some areas where the Nexon shines. All of thse elements come together to make it a great value for money product. Now, to further enhance the VFM quotient, Tata is planning to launch the Nexon CNG. CNG would make driving the Nexon affordable and pocket friendly. In this article, we have discussed the details that we know about the Nexon CNG so far.

Tata Nexon CNG – Design

Adding a factory-fitted CNG kit is not expected to result in any major design changes. The only changes could be CNG badging here and there. The CNG nozzle could be placed alongside the fuel cap. The biggest change would be on the inside. With the CNG kit, boot space would take a major hit. However, there would still be some space to keep daily-use essentials.

Tata Nexon CNG – Features

Tata Nexon CNG

The Tata Nexon CNG is expected to be a feature-loaded car. How can we say this? Tata positioned the Tiago & Tigor CNG variants at a premium. Tata looked at changing the general outlook of CNG cars as most brands offer CNG on lower variants. This is the reason why we expect the Nexon CNG to be available in higher trims as well. Features like a fully digital instrument cluster, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, sunroof, automatic AC, cruise control, etc. could be made available. Tata’s iRA connected car tech with some well-connected features could also be on offer.

Safety

Tata Nexon CNG

Tata Nexon was the first car from an Indian carmaker to score five stars in Global NCAP’s crash test. It will continue to get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, and reverse parking sensors as standard. The upper variants might also get electronic traction control, roll-over mitigation, hydraulic brake assist, hill-hold assist, and reverse parking camera.

Engine

Tata Nexon CNG

Tata Nexon is available in a variety of engines with different fuel options. Now, it is expected to get the CNG option as well. The CNG kit would have to come mated to the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine unit since the Nexon does not come with a naturally-aspirated engine. With the addition of a CNG kit, the power figures might be reduced. However, the mileage and range would be increased with huge margins. Currently, it is expected that the Nexon CNG would be only available in 6-speed manual transmission.

Conventionally, CNG kits have been paired to naturally-aspirated engines but new players are expected to be attempting to change this. A while ago, a Kia Sonet with the turbo-petrol engine was spotted testing with a CNG kit. The Nexon also has no option but to use its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. We will have to wait and see what these cars can do to shake the convention.

Tata Nexon CNG – Launch

Tata might launch the Nexon CNG sometime by the end of this year or next year. As mentioned above, Tata could make the Nexon CNG available in a variety of variants. We expect that the CNG variant might be priced about Rs 70,000 to Rs 90,000 costlier than the normal petrol engine option.
