EVs are slowly becoming mainstream in India. But we have a long way to go before we have more EVs. Currently, only 2 to 3 manufacturers have dabbled in the EV space. Now Kia has become another manufacturer to enter this list with its EV6. Why the EV6? Kia seems to be following a top-down approach by launching the EV6. Pricing and variants

The price of the Gt line is Rs 59.95 lakhs, and that of the Gt line all-wheel-drive is Rs 64.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). Kia global has allotted 100 units for the Indian market. Kia has received 355 bookings for the Kia EV6. It is setting up 15 EV dealership for the EV6. This dealerships will have a 150kW charger available at all times.

The EV6 is built on Hyundai and Kia’s shared E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Architecture (E-GMP) platform. As for the design, the EV6 has garnered a lot of appreciation and awards. So what’s special about the EV6? The design is something you will not mistake for anything else. It boasts a more cross-over design due to an elongated wheelbase. Kia has given it a more rounded design compared to its sister model, the Hyundai Ioniq-5.

Specifications

Kia has only launched the bigger 77.4kWh battery pack variant in India. Now you will ask what range does this deliver? This battery pack gives it a range of 528kms on a single charge. As mentioned above, Kia has launched both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options. The all-wheel-drive option comes with a dual motor capable of producing 325bhp & 605Nm of torque. EV6 can go from 0-100 in 5.2 seconds.

Kia cars are synonyms with features, and it is no different on the EV6. So what are some ground-breaking features? The EV6 gets features like an augmented reality heads-up display, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, a dynamic parking guide, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a sunroof, and connected car technology. What about safety features? Kia has also got that covered with eight airbags, hill-hold assist, electronic parking and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

Kia plans to launch 14 battery-powered vehicles by the end of 2027. It has also committed that it will be bringing some of this to India. Kia is also developing a ground-up India centric electric car. This mass-market EV will be launched by 2025.
