Maruti has started this year with a bang. It has launched back-to-back products ranging from the new Baleno to the updated XL6. Going forward, it will start launching its newer products on which it has extensively collaborated with Toyota. The first of these will be the Creta rival which will be launching this year. This will be followed by a mid-size SUV that will help it take on the Harrier. In today’s article, we will talk about this Maruti SUV that will rival the Tata Harrier.

Platform & Dimensions

Maruti-Toyota Harrier

Starting from the platform details, this SUV is rumoured to be based on Daihatsu DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) modular platform. Why the DNGA platform? Toyota has specially developed this platform for emerging markets like India. It is a more cost effective platform than Toyota’s TNGA platform. Dimension-wise, we can’t speculate the exact dimensions, but it has to be somewhere around 4600mm to take on the Tata Harrier.

Maruti Harrier rival – Design

Not much is known about the exact design of this new mid-size SUV. However, we expect it to sport a strong road presence. Maruti will give the Harrier rival its unique touches to differentiate it from the Toyota SUV. It could get a more upright stance giving it a good amount of road presence.

Will it get a hybrid setup?

As the car is still in its early stages of development, there are no specific details available on the engine options. Off late, Maruti has been testing the Swift Sport in India, so why does it matter here? The Swift Sport comes with a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine that Maruti can use in this mid-size SUV. Maruti might retune the engine to produce more power. Still this is only a speculation, and Toyota and Maruti might give it a different engine from Toyota’s or Suzuki’s global portfolio. Whichever engines it brings, it will mostly be paired to a strong hybrid setup on the higher variants.

Maruti Harrier rival – Features

Features have become an important USP to attract buyers in India. So what all features will Maruti give to its Harrier rivaling product? We expect Maruti to give it features like a big infotainment system, premium sound system, 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, automatic climate control & connected car technology. It will most likely get a sunroof but it remains to be seen if a normal or a panoramic sunroof. Other features that Maruti can include could be a fully-digital infotainment system, ventilated seats, electronic parking brake, etc.
