Rs 8 lakhs Honda SUV coming to India!

Yes! You heard it right! Honda is working on two SUVs and one of them would be a compact SUV that will be going up against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. And we aren’t speaking of the WR-V. Honda is building two grounds-up SUV for the Indian car market: the compact SUV will be coming in 2023 whereas the Creta-rivaling product in 2024. Honda will be building the compact SUV on the Amaze platform. At the moment, the company has two highly localised platforms, one underpins the Amaze and one underpins the City. This will give the company an opportunity to add more sales to its kitty. In this article, we will get into details of this Rs 8 lakh Honda SUV.

Why does Honda need an SUV?

At the moment, the company has been struggling with no proper SUV in its list for India. The WR-V is more of a pseudo-SUV and the new one shall be a boxy SUV with proper road presence. Our sources state that the ZR-V brand name could be considered for India. Honda will be more eager to get an SUV in the compact space first as many car brands are focusing on the bigger size SUV as Maruti Suzuki and Toyota will be the giant automakers to get into this category this year. Honda at the moment has 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre petrols and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. We can expect a turbo-petrol to keep the taxations low on its compact SUV.

What would it get in terms of features?

In terms of features, it will atleast get what the Amaze gets and also some extra goodies like sunroof, some features of ADAS, wireless charging which aren’t there on the Amaze or even the Jazz and WR-V. The good news is that Honda has got serious about the SUV category and we can expect some fireworks from the company as days would pass by. With this current news on the compact SUV, Hyundai Venue facelift will come by 16th June and the Brezza date isn’t too far off either. This will add some freshness to the current segment with the top 2 automakers looking at refreshing their mini SUVs for India.
