Design

The Jeep Meridian is based on the Compass. So how has Jeep differentiated the two cars? For starters, we have a different grille and headlamp structure. Also, the Meridian looks quite imposing due to the overhang that accommodates the extra row. At the rear, it gets slender looking tail-lights similar to the Grand Wagoneer.

Interior design

Coming to the interior, it is quite similar to the facelifted Jeep Compass. However, Jeep seems to have used better materials for the interior to increase the overall premiumness. The dashboard is finished in a woody texture with the infotainment system in the middle.

It sits on a wheelbase of 2,794mm and has a ground clearance of 214mm. Now coming to the engine details, it comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of producing 168bhp & 350Nm of torque. So, what premium features does the Meridian get? Meridian makes available features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch infotainment system, Alpine sound system, a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, multi-zone climate control, etc. Availability of such features makes a strong case for the Meridian.

Jeep Meridian pricing – Should Toyota Fortuner worry?

Looking at the pricing, the on-road pricing of the Meridian will undercut that of the Fortuner by some margin. The Meridian will end up offering more features, creature comforts to Fortuner buyers that were buying the Fortuner for its presence and lack of another competitor in the market. We do feel that the Fortuner with its reliability and resale value quotient will still be a strong player in the full-size SUV segment.
