Tata Altroz isthe safest premium hatchbacks in India. It scored five stars on the Global NCAP crash test. The Altroz was a great all-rounder product but still jacked one crucial thing. It was not available with an automatic transmission from the start. To tackle this, Tata recently introduced the DCA transmission to Altroz. This same DCA transmission is expected to make its way to other Tata cars as well. So, after Tata has tackled this problem, what is next for Altroz? Tata will come up with the electric version of this car, the Altroz EV very soon. In this article, we have mentioned all the updates we can expect from the Tata Altroz EV.

Design and Platform

Altroz EV update

The Altroz EV will be built upon the ALFA-ARC ‘Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture’ platform. This chassis is capable of supporting both ICE engines as well as electric setup. The Altroz has already been applauded for its futuristic design. So, Tata is not expected to change anything in terms of overall styling. Changes like new colour scheme, EV-specific highlights, etc. are only expected.

Altroz EV update – Motor and Battery

Altroz EV update

According to the speculations, the Tata Altroz is expected to use the same motor and battery pack as the current generation Nexon EV gets. So, this EV might be running on a 95kW 3 Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with a single gearbox. This motor is said to come powered by a 30.2kWh high-density lithium-ion battery pack. This motor on the Nexon EV makes 127bhp & 245Nm. Do you think the Altroz EV will be quicker than the Nexon EV? We expect this to happen due to the Altroz’s lower kerb weight. The claimed range of the Altroz EV could be around 300km on a full charge. The battery is expected to take 60 minutes to charge from 0%-80% on a DC fast charger.

Altroz EV update – Price and Competition

Altroz EV update

The Tata Altroz could be placed between the Tata Tigor EV and the Tata Nexon EV. The Altroz EV will be the first hatchback in India to come with an electric setup. We expect that the Altroz EV might launch somewhere between Rs 12 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs (ex-showroom). At this price, Tata is the only player here. The Altroz EV will mainly compete with Tata’s own products like the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV. So buyers who don’t want an electric SUV must wait for the Altroz EV. However, we expect the Tata Altroz EV to launch by the end of the year 2022 or in the first quarter of 2023.
