Maruti has had a strong start to the new year. It has already launched products like the all new Baleno and the updated WagonR. However, its most highly anticipated product will be the mid-size SUV that it is building in collaboration with Toyota. This mid-size SUV will be competing with the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector, etc. and is expected to launch sometime around the festive season this year. In today’s article, we will take a look at this big SUV from Maruti which will be the next Harrier competition.

Dimensions

The upcoming Maruti mid-size SUV is codenamed the ‘YFG’. It is rumoured that the YFG will sit between the C-segment SUVs and mid-size SUVs. With this strategy, Maruti and Toyota will be looking to target both segments with one car each. Keeping that in mind, the SUV could be somewhere around 4,400mm in length just like the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Maruti Harrier competition – Design

Not much is not about the exact design of the YFG. However, we expect it to take design cues from the Toyota Corolla Cross. Maruti will add some of its unique design elements to the YFG. Recently, the SUVs were spotted testing but were covered in heavy camouflage. It will mostly come with a spilt DRL setup and a new grille.

Specifications

According to rumours, the Maruti YFG will be based on Daihatsu’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) modular platform. The DNGA platform has been developed for emerging markets. As far as the engine is concerned, no specific details are available as of now. However, the car will come powered by a strong hybrid system from Toyota. This hybrid setup will boost performance and will also improve efficiency. Maruti will offer manual and automatic gearbox options.
