The hatchback segment is one of the most popular segments in India. Maruti recently launched the all new Baleno. Baleno is a premium hatchback that is sold under the premium Nexa badge. The brand has never offered any of its Nexa cars with CNG. Baleno is expected to be the first Nexa car to be sold with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The new Baleno CNG was already spotted testing. In this article, we have discussed the Maruti Baleno CNG and how it will disrupt the hatchback segment.

Why Baleno CNG?

Baleno CNG

Maruti already has its diesel engines discontinued. Other brand do offer quite some options in this segment. So to fill this gap, the company is planning to give its customers a CNG option. Maruti is already very well-known for the CNG technology that it offers on its other cars. The new Maruti engines are much smoother than before. Also, the Maruti CNG cars return really good mileage numbers. So to tackle all of this, Maruti is soon expected to bring the CNG Baleno.

Expected features

Baleno CNG

Since only a CNG kit would be the main addition, nothing else is expected to change. We would get to see features like a 9.0-inch SmartPro Play Plus touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, 360-degree parking camera, and heads-up display.

Baleno CNG – Engine specifications

The new Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that makes 88bhp & 113Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual and AMT gearbox. Due to the addition of the CNG kit, the power figures would be reduced. But this would be compensated by the lower running cost. CNG costs less when compared to petrol and would even offer better mileage than a petrol car. As it is Maruti’s CNG, it would also be one of the best CNG cars in India.

Baleno CNG – Pricing and conclusion

Baleno CNG

The Baleno CNG is expected to cost about Rs 50,000 more than the regular Baleno. Thus, the lower trim is expected to be priced under Rs 7 lakhs (ex-showroom). It might be a major hit for Maruti after its launch. This car would compete with Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza in its segment but will face no direct rival as none offers a CNG kit.
