Jeep Compass stands as a feature-rich, premium mid-size SUV in the market. The American badge competes with likes of Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson and to some extent, the Citroen C5 Aircross. Now, Jeep is soon going to venture into a new space in the country. Jeep has recently unveiled a full-size SUV, the Meridian for the Indian buyers. It has everything the Compass gets but packed in a bigger form. In this article, we discuss whether a Jeep buyer should wait for the upcoming Meridian or continue with the Compass.

Design

Wait for Meridian

The Jeep Meridian will be a three-row, full-size SUV. It will take multiple design cues from the Compass but will still maintain its uniqueness. At the front, the Meridian will come with a seven-slat grille with the Jeep logo over the bonnet. The Meridian will be easily differentiable from the Compass when looked from the rear and the sides. The tail lamps will be completely different from that of the Compass. Compared to the Fortuner, this car will sport a modern design. So, if you want a modern & unique design, you should definitely wait for this car.

Interior and Features

Wait for Meridian

The Meridian, similar to the Compass, would come with many modern and fancy features. This will hep it compete with the Toyota Fortuner. It will get a big 10.1-inch floating infotainment system with FCA’s UConnect 5, a fully-digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, leather upholstery, ventilated seats, powered tailgate, electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, and many more. A 4×4 system is also expected to be put in place for tackling tough terrain. We also expect ADAS to be on offer. The Toyota Fortuner feels old in terms of features. This is something that the Meridian will tackle.

Pricing and competition

Wait for Meridian

We expect the price of the Jeep Meridian to start from somewhere around Rs 30 lakhs (ex-showroom). So, it will be more costly than a Jeep Compass. In the market, it will compete with big SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, the MG Gloster and the Mahindra Alturas G4.

Conclusion

Wait for Meridian

Jeep Meridian will be a seven-seater full-size SUV whereas the Compass is a five-seater mid-size SUV. If you require a big SUV and have a big family, you should definitely wait for the Meridian. If you have a family of four, don’t require seven seats every time and are content with the features that the Compass has on offer, you should save some money and get the Compass. If you are content with the Jeep Compass and want a more off-roading focused car, you can opt for the Jeep Compass Trailhawk 4X4.
