Tata Motors has several manufacturing factories spread across India. It has manufacturing bases in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), Dharwad (Karnataka) and Sanand (Gujarat).

Mahindra is another Indian manufacturer doing great in the Indian car scene. Mahindra also has several factories spread across India. It has three plants in Maharashtra (Kandivli, Chakan and Nashik) and one each in Uttarakhand and Telangana. 

Maruti-Suzuki

Maruti

The biggest manufacturer in India, Maruti has had a long history in our country. Maruti-Suzuki has two manufacturing facilities in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one manufacturing complex located in Gujarat. All manufacturing facilities have a combined production capacity of 2,25,000 vehicles annually.

Hyundai

Hyundai is the second largest manufacturer. Hyundai set up its India operations in 1996. Hyundai Motors India Limited has two manufacturing plants in Irungattukottai and Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu

Kia

Car factories in India

Kia India was founded on 19th May 2017. Kia started from scratch by building a 536-acre manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Kia’s Anantapur plant is capable of producing 3,00,000 vehicles annually.

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) established its India operations in 1995. Honda has two manufacturing plants, one in Tapukara while the other is located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. 

Nissan-Renault

Car factories in India

Nissan-Renault has its manufacturing plant in Oragadam near Chennai. The plant has a capacity of 4,80,000 vehicles per annum. The capacity is divided equally between Nissan & Renault. 

VW group (Volkswagen-Skoda-Audi)

Car factories in India

The VW group consists of Volkswagen, Skoda & Audi in India. It is headquartered in Pune, India. The group owns two plants in Maharashtra. One is located in Chakan, Pune, while the second is located in Aurangabad. Audi also manufactures its car at the Aurangabad plant. 

Citroen

Car factories in India

Citroen is the PSA group’s third attempt to enter the Indian market. Citroen manufactures its C5 Aircross at the Tiruvallur plant in Tamil Naidu. Group PSA has invested Rs 2500 crore to enter the Indian market. 

Car factories in India – Toyota

Car factories in India

Toyota entered India in 1997 with a joint venture with the Kirloskar group. Toyota’s current plant is located in Bidadi, Karnataka. It is spread across 850 acres and has a capacity of 1,10,000 vehicles per annum. Toyota’s second plant is located on the outskirts of Bangalore, Karnataka. 

MG India

Car factories in India

MG India, like Kia, started its manufacturing operation in 2019. Its manufacturing plant is located in Halol, Gujarat. MG bought its plant from General Motors at the end of 2017. It invested more than Rs 2,000 crore in revamping the General Motors plant. The plant has a capacity of 80,000 cars per year.

Mercedes-Benz India was founded in 1994 and has since manufactured & assembled all its cars in India. It currently manufactures its cars at its plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. This plant was set up in 2015 and is one of the top rated CKD plants of Mercedes-Benz globally.

BMW-Mini

Car factories in India

BMW India started its operations in January 2007. BMW manufactures its car at its Chennai plant. BMW India produces 11 car models at the Chennai plant. Some cars are completely manufactured in India, while others come through the CKD route. Mini also manufactures its Countryman in BMW’s Chennai plant.
