Pickups have never been that popular in India. But the situation seems to be changing with the SUV and pickup trend taking over. To capitalise on this growth, Toyota is launching the Hilux. With the entry of Hilux, we can expect a lot of new pickups in this segment. One manufacturer that can bring a pickup is MG Motors. MG could launch the Extender to take on the Hilux. In today’s article, we will see the car MG is bringing that will take on Toyota.

MG car Design

MG Extender

The Extender comes with aggressive design language. MG has used a lot of chrome on the grille adding a bling factor. Other features include big alloy wheels, rectangular-shaped headlamps and slim DRLs. The side profile looks like a typical pickup with a lot of curves and carriers.

Specifications

MG Extender

The MG Extender is based on the Maxus T90 platform. This platform is the successor to the T60 platform upon which the Gloster is based. Globally, the Extender comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. This engine is capable of producing 159bhp & 375Nm of torque. MG should also bring the 2.0-litre twin-turbo engine used on the Gloster to the Extender.

MG car Features

MG Extender

The Extender comes with a decent amount of features for a utilitarian vehicle. It comes with a 10.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Extender also comes with connected car tech. This system offers remote lock-unlock, vehicle location, activate horn and lights. In terms of safety features, it comes with stability control, lane-keep assist, hill-start & descend assist and TPMS.

Launch timeline and pricing

MG Extender

There is no official confirmation from MG regarding the Extender in India. But considering Toyota is bringing the Hilux, MG can launch the Extender to take on the Hilux. MG will surely look to undercut the Hilux as it did by undercutting the Gloster against the Fortuner. If MG can bring it under Rs 20 lakhs, it will sell in good numbers.
