MG had a great start in India with its Hector. This mid-size SUV helped MG gain a firm hold in the Indian car market. After the success of Hector, the brand also launched the Gloster and ZS EV. The brand even launched a seven-seater variant of the MG Hector, the Hector Plus. The brand is now looking to expand its portfolio even further with cars in various segments to heat up the competition. In today’s article, we discuss a list of upcoming MG cars in India. Let’s begin.
The MG Astor is a gasoline counterpart of the brand’s ZS EV. The car will get a redesigned front and rear design with new alloy wheels to differentiate it from the ZS EV. It will only be made available with petrol engine options. We are expecting a 1.5-litre petrol engine that will make 118bhp & 150Nm of torque and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that will make 161bhp & 230Nm of torque. Other features it will come with are a 10.1-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, electronic parking brake, a fully digital instrument cluster and ventilated seats. The Astor is expected to be launched by the end of this year. The Astor will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and other cars in this segment.
MG might enter the MPV space in the coming time. We expect MG to initiate its MPV stint with the help of 360M. The MG 360M is a perfect competitor to the Maruti Ertiga. We expect MG to load this car with premium features that will help it take on the Ertiga. There is no confirmation, but MG will surely look to enter this segment since there are not many competitors in this segment.
The MG G10 was also shown during the Auto Expo 2020. MG might launch the G10 to rival the Kia Carnival and Toyota Innova. It will help MG give a tough fight to the above-mentioned rivals. The MG G10 is expected to come powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, the same unit that powers the Hector. However, we expect the engine to undergo re-tuning in order to make more power for this MPV.
MG Nexon EV rival
MG has its presence in the EV space with its ZS EV. This EV is however on the expensive side. Taking into account the affordability factor, MG is looking to bring in a cheaper EV to rival the Nexon EV. It will be a sub-four-metre vehicle. We expect the electric car to boast a range similar to that of the ZS EV (419km). We expect MG to price this car somewhere around Rs 18 lakh. However, to make the car affordable, the brand might skimp on features. The car is expected to be launched by 2023.
We are expecting the pickup truck segment to gain a sudden boom in the country in the coming time. Looking at the future trend, we expect MG to bring its Extender to India as well. The car will be based on Gloster’s platform and will directly compete with products like Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.
