Rs 25 lakhs EV to rival MG ZS EV facelift

Hyundai Kona EV was the brand’s first EV for India. The Kona EV was launched in July 2019 here. The Kona EV was given an update in the global market in 2020. However, the Indian-spec EV did not. With that being said, we expect a Kona facelift this year. Let’s see in detail this Rs 25 lakh EV and what we can expect in this 2022 Hyundai Kona EV.

Looks And Dimensions

The Hyundai Kona facelift has been significantly updated at the front. The headlamps are mounted below the DRLs, with the latter taking the eyebrow position. The facelift of Kona also has a cleaner bonnet. It looks sharper than the currently-available one. There are not many changes on the sides and rear as it is just a facelift. The overall dimensions are expected to remain the same.

Rs 25 lakh EV – Drivetrain

There is no change in the battery pack and the motor system in the Kona facelift. Hyundai Kona EV runs on a 100KW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). This motor produces 134bhp & 395Nm of torque. The battery pack used is a 39.2kWh Lithium-ion Polymer. The battery takes 6 hours to charge normally and takes 57 minutes on a fast DC charge to charge from 0%-80%. It gets an impressive driving range of 452kms on a full charge.

Rs 25 lakh EV – Interiors and Features

The Kona facelift will offer a 10.25-inch infotainment unit, rather than the 8.0-inch infotainment unit. New AC vents give the dashboard a fresh look. No major changes other than this are done to the cabin. Hyundai has added some more features in their Blue Link connected car tech application like voice control and remote climate control for the facelift.

Price and Competition

In India, Hyundai will bring the Kona EV as a CKD unit. We expect the pricing to only see a slight bump in order to keep the pricing competitive. The pricing will be between Rs 23 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. The Kona EV facelift will directly compete with the upcoming MG ZS EV facelift and the upcoming Tata Nexon EV Long Range.
