Nowadays, every carmaker is working on launching an electric variant of a popular car from their portfolio. Maruti is a brand that however seems unaffected by changing events in the EV segment. They are busy working on alternate fuels, and CNG variants. The Maruti Alto is a bestselling car from the brand with consistently good sales figures. What if Maruti decides to bring an electric variant of the Alto. In this article, we will discuss our expectations from affordable Maruti Alto EV.
Maruti Alto EV Design
Usually, the exterior of the car remains unchanged in its electric version. Few brands have their popular cars in ICE and EV avatars selling side by side under one roof. The design of the Alto gives it a unique aura that is already popular as a top-seller. Any changes done to the original design of the Alto will change its identity and people may not be able to relate to the popular Alto that is currently available. On the design front, the front grille will be covered and is expected to carry some badging to distinguish it as an EV.
Specifications
The Maruti Alto is known for its compact dimensions. The car is 3445mm in length, 1515mm in width, 1475mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2360mm. Similar dimensions are expected to be continued on the Alto EV as well. Currently, the Alto gets an 800cc F8D petrol engine that produces 47bhp & 69 Nm of torque. The EV variant of the Maruti Alto is expected to be powered by a 26kWh battery pack that could produce 75bhp & 170Nm of torque mated to a single-speed automatic transmission. This if turned into a reality will make the Alto EV power-packed and fun to drive. The car is expected to support multiple charging modes wherein it will be compatible with 220V domestic wall sockets as well as public charging points. It is expected to charge 0 to 80% in 60 minutes using a fast charger and up to four hours to charge 100 percent.
Features
The Maruti Alto EV is expected to be launched as a car for common people who are planning to buy their first car. The car might get all the latest features like a touchscreen infotainment system, upgraded music system, keyless entry, steering mounted controls and LED headlamps & tail lamps. The Alto EV might also add automatic climate control and connected car technology to the list of features offered.
