We all have seen and loved the Mahindra XUV Aero concept car at the Auto Expo 2016. The coupe styling is the catch and that’s what attracted car lovers towards the XUV Aero. Tata Motors is in the news for designing a coupe-styled SUV that will enter the mid-sized SUV segment.  In this article, we will discuss the new Tata Nexon-based EV coupe.

Tata Nexon Coupe Design

Nexon Coupe

The Nexon Coupe will be a stretched version of the current Nexon. The sole purpose of this car is to enter the mid-sized SUV segment to rival the Hyundai Creta. Currently, Tata Motors lack a product that fits in the mid-sized SUV segment. The coupe will be made to fit the 4.3 metre length. The SUV will be designed to accommodate both petrol and diesel engine options along with an EV system. The coupe will share the same platform (X1) that is used by Nexon.  The new coupe will share the A-pillar, windscreen, and front doors with the Nexon. Changes will be seen only after the B-pillar as the body of this SUV gets stretched. The increased length is expected to deliver more cabin space. We can expect the overall length to be 4.3 metres and the wheelbase to be around 50mm longer than the current Nexon.  The front fascia and grille will get a new design to distinguish the Nexon Coupe from the regular Nexon.

Tata Nexon Coupe Engine Options

Ziptron

Initially, the Nexon Coupe will be launched as a pure EV. The same electric drive as the current Nexon EV will be used for the Nexon Coupe EV. But the coupe is expected to get a bigger 40 kWh battery pack and deliver a longer range than the Nexon EV. The electric motor will be upgraded to deliver more power and torque than the current Nexon EV that delivers 129bhp and 245Nm of torque.

Tata Nexon Coupe ICE Variant

Tata Engine

The ICE variant of the Nexon Coupe will get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that will produce around 160bhp. By the time this coupe-styled SUV enters the market, we can expect BS6 stage 2 to be implemented. Therefore Tata Motors will have to fine-tune their diesel engines to be BS6 stage 2 compliant. The 1.5-litre diesel engine with necessary upgrades is expected to be offered in the Nexon Coupe.

Expected launch

Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon Coupe was supposed to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2022. The Auto Expo 2022 is now canceled and unveil might get postponed. The market launch might also get delayed. We expect this car to be seen in showrooms only by 2023. This car will compete with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona but the pricing will be on the lower side.
