Mahindra and Ford had signed an agreement back in October 2019 to form a joint venture for the Indian market. They were planning to build a Creta competition SUV that was registered as Mahindra XUV400. However, the thing didn’t go as planned and the joint venture was called off. The electric version of XUV300 known as eXUV300 will get this name once launched by Mahindra. In this article, we will discuss our expectations from this Rs 14 lakh Mahindra SUV that will be launching soon in India.

The Mahindra XUV400 is expected to get the same exterior design as the eXUV300 that was on display at the Auto Expo 2020. Unique front and rear bumpers, newly designed alloy wheels, and a closed-off grille will make their way to the production version of the Mahindra XUV400.

Mahindra SUV Build Quality

Mahindra is known for making cars with the sturdy build quality and rugged looks. The XUV400 is expected to continue the legacy of being a strong and sturdy car from Mahindra. The XUV400 will be equally robust and rugged as the XUV300. It will use the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. Mahindra XUV300 had scored a five-star safety rating at the Global NCAP test. We expect the upcoming XUV400 to be equally safe when it gets tested for safety at Global NCAP.

When it comes to EVs in India, the range plays a major role. Currently, the EVs that are available in India offer a range as follows. Hyundai Kona offers 452km, MG ZS EV offers 418km, Tata Nexon EV offers 312km and Tata Tigor EV claims 306km. Mahindra XUV400 is expected to offer a range between 320km to 350km so that it can easily compete with its rivals in the EV segment.

Battery Life

When the eXUV300 was on display at the Auto Expo 2020 as a concept car, the SUV was equipped with a 350V powertrain and a more powerful 380V version. The 350V version of the XUV400 will compete with the Tata Nexon EV in terms of pricing, while the 380V version will compete with the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona. The XUV400 is expected to take six to eight hours for a full charge using a domestic wall socket and 45 to 60 minutes using a fast charger.

Features

The XUV400 is expected to get all the latest features that are currently rending in the EV segment. Wireless charging, electric sunroof, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity are some of the prominent features that we can expect to be offered in the XUV400. Since Mahindra offers booster headlamps and AdrenoX in its flagship SUV the XUV700. We can expect similar features to be added to the XUV400 as well.
