Generally, in Toyota, we talk about the Fortuner or Innova. But there is one more Toyota car that you can consider buying in the second-hand market. We are talking about the Corolla Altis. Full-size sedan
The Corolla Altis is a full-size sedan it used to compete with the Skoda Octavia, Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra. Dimensions wise, it is 4620mm in length, 1775mm in width and 1475mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2700mm and has a ground clearance of 175mm. From the dimensions, it is clear how big the Corolla Altis is. These big dimensions lead to spacious interiors and a good road presence.
Good engines and transmission options
You can find the Toyota Corolla Altis in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated engine capable of producing 138bhp & 173Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and a CVT option. The diesel engine is a 1.4-litre capable of producing 87bhp & 205Nm of torque. It comes mated with a manual gearbox only.

Toyota cars are made to last forever. Mechanically, the cars are quite reliable, making them the preferred choice in the second-hand market. You can even buy Toyota cars with over 1 lakh kilometres in the second-hand market. The Corolla Altis is no different in this regard. As mentioned above, the Corolla Altis is a full-size sedan and offers a lot of space in the interiors. The rear seats offer great recline and under-thigh support. The car is ideal for chauffeur-driven people. In terms of comfort features, the top-spec model used to get a 7.0-inch infotainment system, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear-view camera, and leatherette upholstery.

Toyota is known for providing safe cars in the Indian market. The Corolla is no different in this respect. Though Toyota never tested the Indian-spec Altis, it can safely be assumed as a sturdy car. In terms of safety features, it comes with seven airbags, ABS+EBD, hill-start assist and vehicle stability control.
Should you buy it?
If you need a comfortable and reliable full-size sedan, then the Corolla Altis is your best bet. Also, as it is a discontinued car, you can lowball the seller and bring down the price. You can find examples of good used Toyota Corolla Altis for anywhere between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh depending upon the manufacturing year. But as with any second-hand car, it can be riddled with problems if not screened properly.
