Road accident claims 18 lives leaving 5 injured in Bengal

Nadia: At least 18 people have lost their lives while five others were injured in a road accident. The accident occurred when a matador car collided with a truck loaded with stones at the Nadia district in West Bengal on Saturday night. Officials said “thick fog and the high speed of the vehicle” could be the main reason for this unfortunate incident.

Road accident in Bengal’s Nadia

As reported by the officials, the car was heading towards the Nabadeep crematorium from Bagda in North 24 Parganas to cremate a body. While on its way to Nabadeep the car collided with a truck loaded with stones on the side of a road at Phulbari of Hanskhali in Nadia. People injured in this accident had been shifted to Shakitinagar district hospital.

Jagdeep Dhankar, the Governor of West Bengal has expressed his grief over this incident. He has also asked the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress(TMC) government in West Bengal to provide immediate assistance to those injured in this road accident.

While talking to news agency ANI, the Governor said, “Deeply pained at the reported death of 18 people and 5 others injured in Nadia District after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck parked on the side of the road.”

Weather condition is a major factor that causes such road accidents. Climate change and pollution cause dense fog that usually hampers visibility and causes an accident.
