How to prepare for winter driving in India.
Winter is coming, and we need to be prepared for driving in adverse conditions that it brings along. Driving in winter has its challenges and avoiding any mishaps is a top priority. In this article, we will be discussing five important tips to follow while driving during winter. In India, winter really affects a lot of northern states and also some places where it snows.
Winter clothing
If you are about to start your journey nearing sunset, then it’s always better to carry some warm clothing, blankets, and some extra food. Also, carry a fully charged power bank and flashlight to be used in case of emergency while you wait for any kind of help.
Electrical check-up
Get your car battery and other electrical equipment checked regularly. Use fog lights and hazard warning lights while passing through the fog and low visibility patch on the road. Always try to be visible to other vehicles and maintain a safe distance. Clean your headlights, brake lights, and taillights and see if they are visible from far off distance.
Carry enough fuel during winter
Check fuel level in your car. Always carry extra fuel so that you can use climate control to heat the cabin if you ever get stranded in bad weather. However, do not keep the engine running if you are in a basement or garage as the HVAC system could lead to the circulation of poisonous gases like carbon monoxide in the cabin.
Check engine and tyres
If you are someone who travels frequently always get your car’s engine checked. It’s always better to ensure that everything with the car is perfectly fine and there won’t be any breakdown while driving. Be well versed with replacing flat tyres of your car so that you don’t get stranded in case of a tyre puncture.
Check for road surface during winter
During winter roads could be slippery because of ice, water, and other debris. Be gentle while braking and accelerating to avoid losing control of the vehicle caused due to sudden movements. Approach a turn slowly and accelerate once you exit the corner. Avoid overspeeding and overtaking. In case of snowfall, only drive if it’s urgent and unavoidable.
