Kia is all set for a global reveal of its three-row MPV, currently codenamed ‘KY’ on 16 December. The sale of this car is expected to begin in early 2022. This will be Kia’s fourth product in India. Currently, Kia Seltos, Carnival, and Sonet are being sold in India. This upcoming MPV from Kia will likely be named ‘Carens’. In this article, we will discuss what the Kia Carens has to offer for our Indian buyers.

Kia Carens Design and Platform

Kia seven seater

As per the spy shots of the car spotted during its test sprints, the car seems to be an MPV with three rows. The shape and size of the test mule resemble a lot with a traditional MPV. The Kia Carens seem to borrow styling cues from Sonet and Seltos. The car will get Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille and headlamps and tail lamps seem similar to that currently seen on the Seltos. This MPV from Kia will get ample legroom and headroom in terms of space. The Kia Carens will be based on the K2 platform that currently underpins the Seltos and Sonet.

Kia Carens Interiors

The interior of the Kia Carens is expected to get premium fit and finish. It will come loaded with features like a 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system, Bose sound system, heads-up display, wireless charging, charging ports in the third row, and tyre pressure monitoring system. The Kia Carens is expected to be offered in six-seater and seven-seater versions.

Specifications

Kia engine

The Kia Carens will most likely get the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines from the Seltos. The Smartstream G 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113bhp and 144Nm of torque and comes with manual, iMT (clutchless manual) CVT, and DCT gearbox options. The CRDI VGT 1.5-litre turbo-charged diesel engine produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque mated to a manual and automatic (torque converter) gearbox. We also expect the Kia-Carens to get the 2-litre MPi petrol engine that is currently offered in the Hyundai Alcazar. This 2.0-litre petrol produces 157bhp and 191Nm of torque with manual and automatic (torque converter) gearbox options.
