Kia trademarks new name for its Ertiga competition
Kia has a great start in the Indian market. Products like the Seltos and Sonet have done exceptionally well for the brand. But now, Kia is looking to enter new segments to expand its portfolio even more. It is working on an affordable MPV to challenge the Maruti Ertiga and XL6, which dominate this MPV segment. Kia has now trademarked a name for this upcoming car. In today’s article, we will see Kia’s Ertiga competition 2022.
What is the new name?
Kia has trademarked the Carens name in India. Most likely, it will be the name of the new affordable MPV. Interestingly, Kia sells an MPV named Carens in select countries outside India. But this is not the car that is coming to the Indian market. The MPV coming to India will be a completely new model based on the Sonet.
Kia Ertiga competition 2022- exterior design
This new affordable MPV will be based on the Sonet. From the spotted test-mule, it is expected to continue Sonet’s aggressive design language. The side profile will get that extended look due to the added third row. Maybe it will get more headroom than the normal Sonet.
Interior design
Like the exterior, the interior will also take design cues from the Sonet. It will get premium looking interiors with a 10.25-inch infotainment system and premium sound system. Other features will include tyre pressure monitoring, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging etc. Additionally, it might get charging spots in the third row and a heads-up display to better compete with the Ertiga.
Kia Ertiga competition 2022 specifications
This affordable MPV will be based on the K2 platform, which underpins other Kia cars like Sonet & Seltos. Engine and transmission options will be identical to the Sonet. Kia might retune the engine to produce more power. The availability of the diesel engine will be a big plus point over the Ertiga.
Launch & pricing
There is no official confirmation from Kia regarding the launch. But considering that Kia has trademarked its name, we expect it to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2022. The pricing of this affordable MPV is expected to start from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
