Hyundai as a manufacturer has been very successful in the Indian market. A lot of its recent success has been due to its SUV lineup. It has SUVs in almost all shapes and sizes. But one thing missing in its SUV lineup is a competitor for the Tata Harrier. It has Tucson, but it is quite expensive. Now Hyundai is looking to pitch the new-generation Tucson against the Harrier. In today’s article, we will discuss how Hyundai is bringing an affordable Tata Harrier competition.

How will Hyundai do it?

Tucson is expensive as it comes through the completely knocked down (CKD) route in the Indian market. In CKD, cars are broken down into individual parts before being imported into the country. Then these parts are put back together. The government charges a considerable amount of taxes on CKD cars. So what Hyundai can do is they can manufacture the Tucson in India. Considering it already manufactures so many cars in India, it shouldn’t be such a daunting task for them. If Tucson is made locally, then Hyundai will be able to price it competitively. It will help Hyundai Tucson to become the Tata Harrier and MG Hector competition.

What will the Indian Tucson look like?

Considering the amount of investment, we expect Hyundai to start with the new generation Tucson. The new-generation Tucson gets a futuristic design with a jewel-shaped grille with DRLs seamlessly integrating into the grille. Headlamps will be placed lower near the bumpers. The side profile gets a lot of curvy bits giving it a muscular look. Coming to the rear, it will get inverted L-shaped tail lamps that connect in the middle. It also gets a sharp-looking bumper and stylish exhausts.

Specifications and features

Specification-wise, it is expected to come with the same engine options as the current generation. It will come with 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Both these engines will come with automatic transmission options. Hyundai might also offer 4WD in the higher variants. It will come with features like a 10.3-inch infotainment system, wireless phone connectivity, air purifier, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and wireless charging. Globally the Tucson also get forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control and highway driving assist. It remains to be seen if Hyundai offers these features on the Indian-spec Tucson.
