Tata Punch a recently launched compact SUV from Tata Motors is quickly gaining popularity since it was launched. The car did get a massive response as soon as Tata Motors started accepting booking orders for this car. In October the car sold 8,453 units. In this article, we will discuss two major updates that the Tata Punch is expected to get in 2022.

Tata Punch To get Diesel Engine

Tata Punch

A test mule of the Tata Punch diesel variant was spotted a few days ago. This means that we can soon expect the newly launched compact SUV in a diesel avatar. We expect the Tata Punch to get the 1.5-litre turbocharged Revotorq diesel engine that is currently offered in the Tata Altroz. this engine is capable of producing 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. Mostly a five-speed manual transmission is expected with this diesel engine.

New Turbo Petrol Engine

Tata i-Turbo Engine

Currently, the Tata Punch gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 113Nm of torque mated to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT gearbox. The engine comes with a start-stop function and two drive modes- City and Eco. Tata Motors has already given a turbocharged engine in the Tata Altroz. This engine produces 108bhp and 140Nm of torque mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A similar engine setup is expected to be offered in the Tata Punch. The new variant will be launched by mid-2022.

Tata Punch EV Variant

Tata EV

Recently, Tata Motors had announced ten cars that will eventually be launched in the EV market under Tata Motors. They have some ambitious plans regarding electric vehicles in India. Based on this statement and judging the popularity of the Tata Punch. The next EV expected from Tata Motors could be Tata Punch EV. The car will get the same Ziptron technology that is available in the Tata Nexon EV. The Punch is also expected to get a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery that will produce 74bhp and 170Nm of torque. The car is expected to get a range of 300km with a fully charged battery. Currently, the Nexon EV takes 60 minutes to charge from 0 to 80 percent via a fast charger. A normal home wall box charger takes around eight hours to charge from 20 to 80 percent. We expect the charging time to be similar to that of the Nexon EV as both the cars share the same technology. The exteriors and the interiors of the EV will remain unchanged. The Punch EV is expected to be offered in the same teal blue colors as Nexon EV and Tigor EV. This will bring uniformity in the Tata Motors EV segment.
