2022 KTM 490 motorcycle lineup explained

KTM is in news for developing a 500cc engine. This 500cc range is currently being developed at Bajaj’s R&D center in Pune with guidance from the KTM R&D team. If KTM plans to bring this to India, It can disrupt the mid-size bike market. This 500cc engine from KTM is expected to produce more than 50bhp and 40 Nm of torque. KTM plans to introduce Duke 490, Adventure 490, Supermoto 490, and Later RC 490 in India. In this article, we will discuss the KTM 490 lineup of motorcycles and what we expect KTM to offer us in their 490cc engine.

KTM Duke 490

The Duke has always been a popular street fighter bike from KTM. The bike is a hot favorite amongst youngsters and those who want performance. Adding a 490cc engine to the current line-up will open up more options for people who want to upgrade from their existing Duke 125 or Duke 200 to a bike with a bigger engine. The Duke 490 will be heavily inspired from the Duke 790 and will distinctly differ from the existing Duke lineup. The Duke 490 will get all-LED headlamps that we had seen on the Adventure 790. The inverted boomerang-shaped DRL and the led headlamp setup will make it look more like the Duke 790. The bike is also expected to get features like ride by wire, slip and assist clutch, quick shifter, and cornering ABS.

KTM Adventure 490

KTM kept the design language the same for the Adventure series with their Adventure 250 borrowing much of its design from the Adventure 390. So we expect the Adventure 490 to have the same design language with similar headlamps with extended windshield raised handlebars. Adventure 490 will be equipped with a fully digital TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity along with drive mode selection. The Adventure 490 will be a touring bike with off-roading capabilities. The seats will be more comfortable specially designed for long rides. Adventure 390 did lack adjustable suspension and KTM will try to correct it this time by offering an adjustable suspension on the Adventure 490. The exhaust is expected to be big chunky and swept upwards. Adventure 490 is also expected to get a bash plate for the engine to avoid belly scrapes while off-roading. Knuckle guards too will be there. The bike will be feature loaded with features like cornering abs, ride by wire, slip and assist clutch, quick shifter, and an adjustable windshield.

KTM Supermoto 490

This is a dirt bike or what can be said like a motocross bike. This bike is purpose-built for motorsports. The bike will carry the distinct dirt bike looks that make it stand out in the crowd. The bike will come with a long-travel telescopic suspension in the front and mono-shock suspension in the rear. The front wheel will be 17-18-inch spoked wheel with a 320mm disc brake and the rear will be an 18-inch spoked wheel with a 230mm disc brake. Along with the all the dirt bike attributes it will get good sticky rubber for road use and will get switchable ABS for a better better control.

KTM RC490

The RC490 will continue to share the same design language as its smaller siblings, the newly launched RC390 and the RC200. There will be prominent changes as far as the body of the RC490 is considered. Also, KTM could fine-tune the suspension setup to improve ride quality and comfort as compared to the current setup we see in RC390. This means the seating position, handlebars, and footpegs will be more aggressive. The RC490 will borrow its electronics and technology from Duke 490 and will have a TFT digital display. This will also have four riding modes, City, Sport, Rain, and Track. This is going to be a ready-to-race motorcycle just like the RC 390 was. The 490 will be more track and race oriented than the RC390 that now cares about comfort.
