Tata to bring Rs 15 lakh off-roader?
The lifestyle SUV market has grown a lot in the last few years. The Mahindra Thar has been the biggest reason for this growth. Currently, Thar has no competition in its segment but this can change if Tata brings the iconic Sierra back into the market. Tata had showcased a modern version of the Sierra at the Auto Expo 2020. Design
We expect Tata to bring some elements from the concept shown at the Auto Expo 2020 for the final production car. These elements will help Tata retain the original feel of the Sierra. Tata will use its new ‘Impact 3.0’ design language for this car. The front fascia of the car will resemble other Tata cars like the Harrier & Safari to give it an SUV family look. We expect Tata Sierra to be brought as a 3-door as well as a 5-door. This will help Tata cater to a wider audience, something that even Mahindra is aiming to do with its planned Thar 5-door.
Rs 15 lakh Tata off-roader specifications
The Sierra will be based on the Omega-Arc platform, the same platform that underpins the Harrier and Safari. It will be powered by the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that makes 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. Being an offroader, it is expected to come with chunky off-roading tyres as well as 4WD.

Tata is expected to load the Sierra with comfort features to appeal to a wider audience. It will get features like a big touchscreen infotainment system (that will even reflect off-roading data), connected car technology, a premium sound system, Shift-on-the-fly 4X4 system, Hill Descent Control, etc.
Pricing and launch
The expected pricing of the Tata Sierra will be somewhere around Rs 15 lakh. Currently, the Thar is priced from Rs 15.42 lakhs to Rs 18.42 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). Tata has not yet officially confirmed the Sierra, but we do expect it be in the works since the brand had showcased the car. Moreover, the new Sierra can help Tata widen its SUV portfolio in the country in order to tackle a brand like Mahindra.
