Hyundai Ertiga Competition MPV – What is it?
Hyundai is preparing itself to take on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Yes, Hyundai is planning to bring in a new MPV that will rival the Ertiga and the XL6. The new Hyundai Ertiga Competition MPV will be called Hyundai Stargazer. Hyundai is currently planning to sell this new MPV in emerging markets like Indonesia, India, and Russia among a few others. So far information that we have, Hyundai has codenamed this new MPV as Hyundai KS and will make its first public appearance in Indonesia probably around next year. It’s also said that Hyundai KS will share its finer details, parts, and components with the upcoming MPV from Kia, codenamed – Kia KY. This MPV by Kia is expected to reach India by early 2022.
Hyundai Ertiga Competition MPV: the story so far
Hyundai will be manufacturing this new MPV “Stargazer” at its new plant-based in Indonesia. The manufacturing is expected to start by end of 2021. As of now, Hyundai has made big gains in the hatchback and the SUV segment. The missing part was an MPV. With Stargazer, Hyundai is planning to claim its share in the MPV market as well.
Another reason for Hyundai to choose Indonesia for the launch of its new MPV is, Indonesia has been a favorite market for manufacturers like Suzuki, Toyota, and Honda as they launch their product over here. Currently, Suzuki Ertiga, Honda BR-V, Mitsubishi Xpander, and the Nissan Livinia are sold in the MPV car market of Indonesia. But when the brand will bring the car to India, the car will mostly be manufactured in the brands Chennai plant.
The new MPV Stargazer from Hyundai will share its platform with Creta. It will be the same length as the Alcazar. A test car was spotted on the roads of Korea. Though we could not figure out more details from the testing car. The MPV seemed o borrow design elements from Hyundai Tucson and Bayon that were made available for sale in European markets a few months ago.
Hyundai Ertiga Competition MPV Specifications?
This MPV will have the same engine as the Creta. It will get a 1.5 Litre petrol engine and later a 1.5 Litre diesel engine. But the chances of the diesel variant of this MPV coming to India seem very slim. The MPV shares the same manual and automatic gearbox as we get on Creta.
Hyundai Ertiga Competition Launch and Price
While, Kia is all set to get its MPV the Kia KY in India by the first quarter of 2022 and Hyundai and Kia are sister brands this car could come a little later than the Kia MPV. Both brands will share multiple parts, engines, features and platforms like they do with Seltos and Creta or the Sonet and the Venue. It becomes more beneficial to attain economies of scale for both brands. Hyundai will soon follow on the lead of Kia and get the Stargazer in India around mid-2022. Keeping a gap between both product launches will help the companies from cannibalizing each other’s sales.
